Mary Cleary is from Dublin, and was a primary school teacher for 22 years, working on several national education initiatives, promoting ICT as a teaching and learning tool.

She holds a Master's Degree in Education and is now Deputy CEO of the Irish Computer Society/ICS Foundation, a fully self-funded registered charity, charged with promoting digital literacy in Ireland through practical initiatives to deliver an integrated digital curriculum for primary schools, and computer science and user skills second level.

Alongside this, she works on education outreach projects like Tech Week Ireland, professional level initiatives like IT Professionals Day, and promoting continuous professional development for the IT  and eHealth industry in Ireland and across Europe, in collaboration with the European Commission.

She is Chair of the CEN Workshop on ICT Skills, and a member of the ECDL Foundation Expert Working Group, and she represents the NSAI on CEN TC 428, the technical committee, responsible for the maintenance of the European e-Competence Framework.
